Mastering Focus: Best Strategies for Setting and Achieving Goals

Use focus to have a successful life. Achievers believe that initiative, effort, and persistence are key determinants of success. They associate effort in pursuing their goals with dedication, focus, commitment, and involvement.

Focus brings traction and momentum to your business or side project. Focus brings clarity on where to concentrate your time and energy when you have more ideas than time. Being focused, you manage to do what is important and satisfying. Otherwise, you will get lost in your day-to-day responsibilities. Only focus prevents you from checking social media or email far more often than you want to. Also, it prevents you from getting to that point when your awesome project is collecting dust. But most people, when trying to focus on a task, will find their mind wandering. Despite all the best intentions, they just cannot concentrate.  You have all been in this familiar, frustrating situation and it’s something that can really undermine your performance. But if you are able to really focus on what you want, you can make it happen.

The first strategy, take a pen and list all your accomplishments in the previous year, professional and personal. List all of them. Ready? Are they written?  Now take your time and think what was the most important common ingredient that could lead to your achievements. For us, it’s our focus. What it is for you. If you want to, you can open a discussion and share that key element with us. You know, everything you achieve requires focus. Focus is instrumental in successfully achieving any goal, in creating anything. Think of focus as being your powerful weapon if you increase its intensity. The stronger your focus, the longer you can hold that focus, and the better the results you will see.

Second strategy, what is the most important thing for you today? What do you want to achieve more than anything else right now? Find what you want most right now and focus on it. Consider it regularly and keep it in mind at all times. If you do this, it will become ingrained in your mind to always be moving towards it. Always be doing something to progress towards that goal that you are focusing on. Every individual has a limited amount of time in their day. Since that is always the case, it should be expected that if you want to excel at any particular thing or in any particular niche, you need to have a narrow focus.

Having a narrow focus allows you to achieve as much as possible in the shortest amount of time. This same principle applies to how you spend your energy. Everyone has a certain amount of energy available on a daily basis. You can take that energy and apply it to a ton of different things and have a moderate effect, where you can focus all of your energy on a limited number of important things that have a great impact. Focus on what you are good at and start with what you can deliver today.

Visualize yourself performing it to psychologically prepare. Imagine the outcome. Think about how you can get better every day. Define your tactics and share them with us. You need to see how you need to get there.

Final strategy, review which strategies worked in gaining and maintaining your focus. Review what worked and what didn’t, so you can improve the next time. As you think back, notice what you are doing and the times when you get distracted. Tell yourself, I need a better strategy at this moment. To identify that method, consider what you did on days when you were focused and repeat it when you are distracted. If you continue to learn and practice, you will improve. If you are an entrepreneur, you will end up with a lot of stuff on your plate.

With so much information out there, it’s easy to be overwhelmed by the many tasks that need to be done in order to have a thriving business. Once you do finally find the tactics you are going to focus on, set a 3 to 6-month goal and break the action steps down to daily tasks. Every night before you go to bed, grab a piece of paper or notepad and write down the 5 things you need to do for the next day in order to move your business forward. Make sure you complete these 5 tasks before you check your emails, Facebook, Twitter, or any of that distracting stuff.

Business professionals can use this same idea to stay wholly focused on achieving their goals. By harnessing focus, you can accomplish truly impressive results in the business world. The main reason people struggle professionally and personally is simply a lack of focus. This lack of focus can be costly. It makes building a business difficult, can stop you from getting what you want, and blocks your true success. But if you practice coaching yourself to focus, then you will. In anything that you are thinking of doing, any projects or endeavors that you have in mind, you can be an achiever if you focus. Focus is the key that unlocks the doors to your dreams.
